5 Texas Triangle metros dominate Forbes best cities list
Urban observer and researcher Joel Kotkin assembled a list of the best U.S. cities for job growth Forbes magazine and his blog NewGeography.com. Competition was tough since the entrants included 336 cities but Texas came out smelling like roses... yellow roses in fact. Why does Joel Kotkin refer to California as the Sunshine State in his article, "Worst Cities for Jobs." California is considered the Golden State while Florida is considered the Sunshine State...it doesn't seem like Mr. Kotkin is much of an urban observer or a researcher!

KG,
Yes, Florida's license plates sport the "Sunshine State" slogan, but California has also been known by that moniker informally. The Mr. Kotkin is quite knowledgeable, but I agree it could be a mistake. It's also possible he was trying to create a play on words since CA's outlook isn't so sunny.
Further Update:
KG,
Just heard from Mr. Kotkin. You are correct, his original draft contained "Golden State." The error was introduced during the editing process, and is being changed thanks to your eagle eye.
I stick to my original statement, however, regarding the value of Mr. Kotkin's work.
